Established, Capacity and History:
Lal Bahadur stadium had Fate Maidan as its original name till 1967, but this stadium was renamed after Lal Bahdur Shastri, India’s former prime minster. Floodlights were introduced to this stadium in 1992 during Hero Cup match between West Indies and Zimbabwe and this stadium was the home ground of Hyderabad Cricket Team.
Records, International Cricket Debut: ODI & Test:
This stadium is not being used for international cricket matches since 2005 after the newly build Rajiv Gandhi stadium in town who have hosted an One-Day International match between South Africa and India. Now days, this stadium is used for the T20 domestic cricket matches like ICL and CCL, this is also the home ground for Hyderabad Heroes, a team of Indian Cricket League.
This sporting venue is situated between the district police department and a Muslim college named as “Nizam College” in Hyderabad. This stadium also has been a host for sporting events like cricket and football especially.
This stadium has the capacity of 25,000 and this venue also contains swimming pool and shopping complex and indoor games facilities. Now a day, this stadium is used for cricket and football, having floodlights facility makes the stadium more developmental and currently under authority of Andhra Pradesh Sports department.
There are only 3 test matches played here and all of them were between India and New Zealand. The 1st One-Day match was played in 183 between arch rival India and Pakistan and India won that match. This stadium hosted an ODI match in 1983 and that was a thriller match which ended with tied scores of 212 in 44 overs.
India was declared victorious of the match because lost lesser wickets than the Pakistani team. Match between West Indies and Zimbabwe in 1992 was a first day/night match saw by the stadium. This is the stadium who hosted a match in which Sachin and Ganguly scored a world record partnership 331 runs in 46.2 overs.
The final match of TVS Cup was also hosted by Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium in 2003, Rahul Dravid settled a record of fastest 50 by 2nd Indian here in Shastri stadium.
