Sardar Patel stadium was constructed in a period of 9 months; since the ground was completed all the international cricket matches are hosted here. Sardar Patel stadium hosted the 1st test cricket match in 1983 which was played between India and West Indies and the 1st ODI was hosted by this stadium in 1984 between Australia and India.
This stadium also hosted the legendary players and saw too many records; Sunil Gavaskar scored 10,000 runs and became the 1st cricketer to score most – runs in test cricket in 1987. 7 years later that Kapil Dev became the 1st most wicket-taker bowler as he picked up his 432nd wicket here on this ground.
